American Beauty at the Grove

Previously occupied by a semi-casual barbecue restaurant, American Beauty’s second location takes over a sizeable new dining room, outdoor patio, and lunch-through-dinner service in one of Los Angeles’s most iconic retail destinations.

FF&P was invited to turn an existing restaurant space into a second home for a funky Venice steakhouse. We riffed on the restaurant’s original Rose Avenue concept of a dining experience “touched by fire,” imagining a warm, simple environment (with a hint of whimsy) in which to relax and socialize while enjoying culinary and creative excellence.

Our design is a quirky mash-up blending Venice’s arched colonnades, the Grove’s adobe-like color and materials palette, and the Original Farmer’s Market’s eclecticism. A stripped-down interior acts as a backdrop for wild textures and fabrics, furniture of different styles and eras, and pops of functional art.

Art is also visible in an eye-catching mural by Jules Muck (Muckrock) graffitied across the entry tower. Whether you’re grabbing a cheeseburger at the Win~dow or feasting on rib-eye, we think you’ll find both the food and the vibe to be satiating.
