La Mesa Residence

Located along the Santa Monica Rim, a residential enclave overlooking the Riviera Country Club and Santa Monica Mountains beyond, the La Mesa Residence was designed as pavilions in a garden.

Fulfilling the client’s desire to have a house composed of intimate, low-scaled space, the design carefully modulates between formal and informal, public and private, and open and enclosed space to create restrained and refined volumes that tread lightly on the site.
Further responding to the unique site characteristics of both near and far-views, the house volumes unfold as a series of one-room-thick spaces that combine transparency, window walls, and opacity, stone and wood to emphasize the immediate visual relationships between the living spaces and surrounding courtyards and gardens.
