Rollins College Museum of Art

FF&P is collaborating with Rollins College on the design for the Rollins Museum of Art (RMA). Located a short walk from both the Rollins campus and Winter Park’s downtown, this institution, along with the Alfond Inn, form a project that aims to bring together philanthropy, art, entrepreneurship, innovation, and community.

The RMA is envisioned as a modern, three-story, 31,000 square-foot building that will address the need for additional exhibition, study, and conference spaces, a lecture hall, and a curricular gallery. Its design focuses on increasing visibility and accessibility of the museum’s arts and cultural experiences to the community.
Due to the current limitations of the Rollins Museum of Art’s building size and layout and the relative inaccessibility of the Museum to the outside world, the decision was made to relocate to an adjacent site next to the expanding Alfond Inn, known as Winter Park’s “living room.” This strategic location, between the campus and Winter Park, naturally positions the Museum as a point of interface between Rollins and the community, establishing an academic and cultural destination for Central Florida.
Incorporating sustainable practices and environmental preservation is integral to the success of the Museum. FF&P’s sustainable strategies encompass on-site water retention management, efficient irrigation systems, and water-conserving plumbing fixtures and fittings to prevent erosion and protect against stormwater pollution during construction.
Efficient lighting control systems minimize light pollution, and the mechanical systems maintain the required temperature and humidity levels for art preservation while ensuring a comfortable environment for employees and visitors.
The courtyard, conceived as a glowing box, provides a sheltered exterior space where all programs in the project converge. This versatile hub serves as a venue for lectures, classes, film screenings, and banquets, inspiring visitors to explore, discover, and connect with the community. The overarching goals include achieving high accessibility, promoting knowledge exchange, ensuring operational functionality, and allowing flexibility for evolving programs at the Museum.
