FF&P designed a new 12,800 square-foot building that houses galleries, a multi-purpose event space, art preparation, storage, and the Museum’s entrance lobby.Designed with flexibility and adaptability at the forefront, the galleries encourage exploration and create moments of discovery.
The century-old house was renovated to contain a cafe, bookstore, art education classrooms, video gallery, and administrative offices. We relocated and rehabilitated the original carriage house on the site to accommodate the video collection, video production and editing facilities, and children’s art education. In turn, the carriage house has become the new multi-media arts and archive center for the Long Beach Museum of Art.The central courtyard plaza incorporates landscaping and a fountain sculpture, and offers a venue for public community activities, private income-producing events, and the Museum’s popular summer performing arts series.
